The 31mm Keihin CR carbs used on this bike may be theoretically 'too small', but they sure do work. They have hard chromed slides which are bell-crank lifted.  Each carb has a pair of miniature, caged ball bearings, one on each side of the bellcrank shaft, and the throttle return spring tension is variable; the spring's end can go in any of a number of holes in a hub, preloading more or less.  You probably could run these with no spring at all, since the throttles are pretty heavy.  Possibly if there were a high manifold vacuum, they could hang if no spring were used; in any event, very little tension is needed, so the throttle effort is very light.

The manifold adapter here was machined from solid by Wayne Baker around 1974, and has an O ring recess on both faces.  Hose mount generic Mikuni flange adapters are used.   This setup works so much better than AMAL GP's there is no comparison.  Sorry about the Chivas Regal sock over the velocity stacks....

Finned valve covers?  Polished valve covers?  Paint 'em Black!
