Hotshoe / Bike Builder / Fabricator extraordinaire, Sonny MacDonnell
Ray_1.JPG (63735 bytes) There's so many motorcycle related stories we could tell about Sonny MacDonnell, it's hard to know where to start (or stop).

First off, he's really fun to ride with as he definitely likes to get on the gas, but also can generally keep it in mind that, on public roads, there are things Survivors don't do, like outside passes on blind turns and so on.  Ray is a definite Survivor.

He can figure out  how to fix almost anything, and has a long and varied  record on that score.  This is the opposite end of the scale from "parts changing".  If he can't repair something, he'll adapt something else, already 'broken in' or make a part.

He claims to have straightened a bent valve, still in use on the bike pictured here, which had its last valve job done by yours truly around 1975, 35 thousand or so miles ago.   Yes, it sounds outlandish, but truth is often stranger than fiction with this chap.

Several Phantom Oiler feature bikes are built, owned and operated by him.   They all are impressively fast.  Not likely that anyone else will jump on one of them and go anywhere near as fast.  Let's say they have personalities of their own.

Without doubt the fastest is the 1500cc Sportster/XR featured elsewhere on Phantom Oiler.  In reference to its implementation as a vehicle for the Saturday Morning breakfast 'ride' he says, with typical understatement, "It's almost like cheating".
